My ambition is to be a publisher in the educational sector of publishing
and I feel that my experience as an English teacher in a primary school
(in Kuwait) for a year and a half before taking this course will support
my interest in this area. By studying in Britain and gaining a qualification
in MA publishing my experience will be broader. I have learned a lot
about the differences between practices in each country, for example
learning how magazines, books, textbooks and other different kinds
of publications follow different rules and different styles. Now I
am looking forward to the most interesting experience which will be
the placement, I believe that working in a foreign country will be
very useful.

As I have completed a previous degree in illustration my ambition
is to work as a designer within a design/production department of
a publishing company. I would prefer to work on highly visual and
illustrative books.
I have
a passion for illustration, animation and children's picture books.
In my spare time, out of pure enjoyment, I work on my own personal
illustration work. The majority of my work is concentrated on children's
illustration and narrative.

As a child reading was my favorite hobby and I enjoyed the fun which
reading brought to me. After my first degree in advertising and marketing
communication, I decided that I would like a career in publishing
and joined the MA Publishing at the University of Plymouth. My ambition
is to find a post involved with marketing in publishing, either in
Great Britain or China.

Eventually I hope to be a commissioning editor. My primary interest
is editorial although I am equally enthusiastic about production and
design. My background is in contemporary literary fiction and poetry
but it is essentially publishing that I am passionate about. I am
flexible about where I begin my publishing career and would be just
as happy joining an STM or academic publishing house as I would be
to join a trade publisher.

After completion of the course I would like to combine my interest
in design, photography and page layout to begin employment in the
consumer magazine industry, specifically in design or production sections
of music magazines. My previous degree in Film and Television Studies,
along with numerous work experience placements, has given me a firm
grasp on what skills are needed to succeed. I am currently developing
my knowledge of Flash-based web design and increasing my portfolio
of black and white digital photography which I aim to incorporate
into future website projects.

I am hoping to enter into the editorial side of the publishing industry,
initially as an editorial assistant. Through my studies and work experience
in editing and managing text I feel that I would ultimately achieve
the position of managing editor. Before this course I lived in Japan
for five years teaching English as a foreign language and also travelled
extensively during this time and would like to combine these experiences
with publishing by either going into the travel or EFL publishing
areas. From these experiences I have also developed a keen interest
in images and photography and would consider alternatively pursuing
a picture editing position.

I have always been a keen reader and have loved books since I was
young and so decided to further this by completing a postgraduate
course in publishing. Through the linguistics side of my undergraduate
degree I also became interested in language analysis and editing texts.
I have since become drawn to the editorial and marketing/publicity
areas of the publishing world. Through work experience that I have
completed, especially my time at the London Book Fair, my enthusiasm
for publishing has increased more and more and I am looking forward
to beginning my career. I hope to enter the industry in the editorial
area of either fiction books or the faster paced world of magazines.

Since the age of ten, my interest in publishing has taken me though
yearbooks, newspapers, magazines and personal projects. These experiences
have shaped my interest of entering into the publishing industry working
on layout design and project management. Where possible I would like
to combine the interests of my first degree in Communication Studies
and Social Justice with the added skills of a Publishing and Editing
Degree, to enter into the magazine layout design or the not for profit
sector working on advertising and marketing packages.

I have always been interested in visual design and I think there are
many prospects in this area, especially in magazine publishing. I
am interested in working on magazine layout design but working in
production also appeals to me. Furthermore, being an international
student, I am aiming to gain experience in a magazine publisher, who
also sells issues in Taiwan. With this opportunity I will be able
to look into how magazine publishers run their business abroad, with
the viewpoint focused on visual design.

My background is English, and I have recently completed a degree in
this. I am eager to progress in the editorial department of publishing.I do a lot of creative
writing in my spare time, so my main area of interest is fiction.
I also have an avid interest in films and would be interested in
working with media related non-fiction.
